  • Hello and welcome to our website.

Laycock Primary School is a smaller than average school in a beautiful setting, with lovely grounds that includes a garden and woodland area. The original school building dates from 1891 and the new extension from 2002. Laycock Primary has a positive ethos and is a well ordered community.

Our last Ofsted Report in March 2011 found our school to be satisfactory. Lesson observations and accurate pupils’ assessments and data show that standards are rising. The staff and Governors work together with a shared vision and commitment to ensure that pupils make progress and reach good levels of attainment.

Staff plan and arrange educational visits each half term to support the curriculum. The budget always supports the provision for sports coaches and visitors, who bring a wide variety of skills, talents and role modelling into school to enrich the children’s learning.

We are committed to working in Keighley 1st LAP and our children fully participate in the community cohesion events organised by the LAP. We are in the second year of a Keighley 1st LAP initiative called ‘Talk for Learning’, which aims to develop children’s thinking, language and learning, taking into account the five core dialogic principles. The Keighley 1st Schools have adopted a corporate Attendance Policy, sharing an attendance officer, ideas, resources and initiatives to promote good attendance.

We achieved the Investors in Families Award in summer 2011. Events and activities towards this included a community fun day, parent workshops, breakfasts with parents, a film project, art workshops, lantern making and Fire Play.

A highlight during the past year has been observing, via a web cam, a pair of blue tits successfully nesting in our school bird box. A popular feature of school is our woodland area which is developing well under the direction of a qualified forest school worker. Current projects are den making, constructing a ‘sitouterie’ in a willow dome and establishing an outdoors story telling circle.
